Day 1

Watamu to Tsavo East

A long first day: the drive inland, the first game drive before midday, and a second one that runs until the light goes.

  1. 06:00

    Departure from your resort

    The safari begins at around 06:00, leaving your resort after a light breakfast.

    You travel by private 4x4 safari vehicle towards Tsavo East National Park, one of Kenya’s largest and most remarkable wildlife reserves, known for its spectacular landscapes and its range of wildlife and vegetation.

  2. 10:00

    Into the park

    We expect to reach the park at about 10:00, and the first game drive runs from there until around midday.

    Over the course of the safari you may come across elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, baboons, buffaloes, antelopes and a great many other species. Tsavo is also known for its red-soil elephants and its baobab trees.

  3. 12:30

    Lunch, check-in and a pause

    We continue to your chosen lodge or tented camp for lunch and check-in, and the afternoon is yours until about 15:30.

  4. 16:00

    Afternoon game drive

    At around 16:00 your vehicle and guide meet you again for the afternoon drive, which runs through to sunset.

    Late afternoon is one of the best times to be out: many animals become more active as the heat drops, and predators start to move.

  5. Evening

    Dinner at camp

    After sunset we return to the lodge or camp for dinner, and the night is spent inside the park.

Day 2

Tsavo East to Watamu

An early drive while the park is still cool, then the road back to the coast in time for lunch at your hotel.

  1. 06:30

    Breakfast, then out again

    Breakfast is served at about 06:30, and we leave at around 07:00 for the final morning game drive.

    This is another chance to look for wildlife and to see the park in its best light.

  2. 08:00

    Along the Galana River

    Depending on the route and on what the animals are doing, we may take in areas along the Galana River, where hippos and crocodiles are often visible along with other wildlife.

  3. Midday

    The road back to the coast

    After the morning drive we leave the park and start the journey back towards Watamu.

    If you would like to bring clothing, food or other basic supplies for local communities, we can arrange a respectful stop along the way to hand them to local families and children.

    Arrival back in Watamu is planned so that you are in time for lunch at your hotel.
